Overview
The University Hospital „Sveta Ekaterina” is one of the largest specialized hospitals for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases in Bulgaria. Since its inception in 1984, the facility has maintained the highest level of medical care. The St. Ekaterina University Hospital is a university hospital in Sofia, is the only hospital in Bulgaria, where heart transplants are routinely performed. Since 2003, a total of 45 transplants have been performed with excellent results.
The University Multiprofile Hospital for Active Treatment “Sveta Ekaterina” serves over 200 patients daily. Number of hospitalised patients last year: 5 099. It has over 150 beds in modern rooms. 88 highly qualified doctors and over 200 medical professionals with state-of-the-art equipment in the field of cardiovascular diseases care for patients.
Only here is cardiac activity mapped using catheters, operating on electromagnetic principle. This is done using the cardionavigation system NOGA, produced by the American company Cordis. This device makes it possible to implant stem cells directly into the heart muscle.
Heart surgeons and interventional cardiologists perform “hybrid” surgeries to treat varicose and narrowed blood vessels defects. Тhus terminate multiple interventions and the accompanying suffering of patients.
The Vascular Surgery Clinic is the only one in Bulgaria where are made reconstructions of visceral vessels, which are related to the abdominal organs (kidneys, intestines, etc.). The clinic is also unique in that it participates in the kidney transplant program together with specialists from Alexandrovska Hospital.
